Deductive board games involve logical thinking and intelligence in making judgments from a premise or set of premises. A central mechanic of these games would include deductive reasoning to win the game. Two broad categories which fall under deductive board games include abstract deductive games which are non-themed and investigation deductive games where players portray characters. Mastermind, played by 2 players is an example of abstract deductive board game where one player acts as code maker and the other acts as code breaker. The goal is for the code breaker to guess the peg patterns made by the code maker in a specific number of turns. On the other hand, an example of investigation games is the Cluedo where it is centered in a murder crime scene where each player portrays a character to find out who did the crime, which weapon was used, and in what room the crime happened. Other deduction board games include the Mystery Mansion, Coda and Black Box.

Brain Busting Word Board Games

Word board games, those dealing mainly with words, are of various types like word search, crossword puzzle, bluff word games, and others that focus on words. Among the many board games, Scrabble is the most amusing and played by many from different parts of the globe. The game has been sold in 121 countries and with 29 versions in different languages. The game played by 2-4 players makes use of tiles with letters having particular values and are used by players to form words on a 15-by-15 cell grid board holding one letter much like in crossword puzzle down and across. The order of the game is determined before the game starts when each player draws individual letters, the ones closest to the letter A goes first and then the game continues in a sequences manner. The words should conform to and can be found in a typical dictionary of the corresponding language used. The player with the most number of points is deemed the winner. Word board game choices are Acronymble, Alfabet, The Da Vinci Code, and Mumble Jumble.

The Stirring Dungeon Board Game

There are board games that allow individual player to portray or guide a special character that increases its abilities and characteristics or even gain gears as the game continues like the adventure board games. Released in 1975, the Dungeon created by S. Schwab, David R. Megarry, Steve Winter, and Gary Gygax was the pioneer in adventure board games. The game is comprised of two to four players each taking unique characters in the game, which includes a rulebook, four Parcheesi-inspired playing pieces (colored white, green, red, and blue), folding vinyl cloth game board, and one pair of six-sided dice. An interesting part of the game set are the variety of treasures and monster cards design with black and white on one side while on the other side are different colors displaying the six different dungeon levels with increasing difficulty: first is gold, second is orange, third is red, fourth is magenta, fifth is green, and sixth is blue. Every players objective is to accumulate the most treasures and conquer the monster to be the first to return to the dungeon entrance. Dungeon and Dragons are later versions of the original game.

The Exigent Game of Chess

One of the ancient board games that rely on strategy and can only be played by two is the Chess. Every players goal is to checkmate the king piece of the opponent where it has no room for moving without being attacked or captured. The game includes a checkered chessboard with 64 squares in an 8 by 8 grid. Each player has a set of eight pawns, two rooks, two bishops, two knights, one king, and one queen a total of 16 pieces for every player. The players take alternate turns in moving their pieces and it should be noted that only one piece can be moved at a time with an exception on castling where movements of two pieces are allowed. Usually the player with the light colored pieces go first and the piece can land on an empty square or one which is occupied by an opponents piece but will be captured and removed from the game. The World Chess Federation maintains the rules and regulations of the game.
