subject: The Joy Of Camping: Experience The Great Outdoors [print this page]

Full of national parks and great outdoor areas, the United States is wonderful for outdoor excursions. Spotting wildlife and melting s'mores over a campfire are only two of the great things you can do. Bike riding or watching the stars are just a couple things to consider doing. The Great Outdoors offers endless possibilities.

Backpacking and adventure magazines are a great source for ideas and reviews of common camping spots. The numerous national parks throughout the US are always destination hotspots. From the Olympic National Park on the Pacific to the Great Smoky Mountains in the east, you can see amazing beauty from coast to coast. For experienced campers or adventurers who want a particularly special trip, there are plenty of unique camping options. You can hike year round through the Forty Mile Canyon in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Utah. You can traverse the deep slopes of this magnificent canyon and weave your way through the sturdy cotton-wood trees. When you need a little cooling down, you can jump into the pool beneath the 12-foot waterfall or try out some of the other glistening pools.

Beyond the tall buildings of the cities, the San Gorgonio Mountain in California presents a spectacular view. Rising high above, this trail and its summit are popular among visitors and Californians alike. At such great heights you'll love the view of the land below and sky above. Back in the east you can also find great peaks in the Appalachian Mountains and foothills.

For a bit of unconventional camping, there are some spots that are catered to you. If you're into skinny-dipping, you want to find the best spot. That may be the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Michigan. Lake Superior offers a great atmosphere in its clean, freshwater depths for swimming and nature watching. The bright, clear sky of the desert is great for admiring the stars, and Mount Wrightson Wilderness in Arizona is an ideal spot. The sky looks rich and amazing from this high perch. For the best rest and relaxation mixed into your adventure, consider the many islands and trails of Hawaii.

Whether you want to see the view from the highest peak or you want to find fun trails that also lead to the best eateries, your outdoor adventure is waiting for you. There's no better way to appreciate nature than to go outside and experience. From coast to coast, there's plenty of adventure waiting for you.
