subject: Ironkey - Review of a Secure & Encrypted USB Personal Flash Drive [print this page] Worried about losing or getting your flash drives in the wrong hand? Have you considered storing them on the popular USB flash drives? What you probably don't know is that these same USB flash drives can come equipped with encryption technology that are properly implemented to give you the most protection for your most crucial data.
I like most users of USB flash drives purchased the usual off-the-shelf sticks at nearby suppliers for a couple of bucks. However, with the natural instinct that I (and many) others have grown to depend and constantly use our flash drives as we start to store more and more of our data on these little pieces of plastic, we disregard that vital and important information may be stored on them.
Therefore, I set off to purchase one of IronKey's Personal S200 16GB flash drives, a secure and encryption based USB flash drive.
2. Cryptographic keys reside on the IronKey itself
3. Securely stores passwords & many other data formats (.doc, .xls, .ppt, .txt, .jpg, .jpeg,.gif etc)
4. FIPS 140-2 Level 3 Validated (U.S. Government approved cryptographic & security standard)
5. On-board anti-virus & malware detection
6. Secure & On-Board Internet Browsing (Using Firefox) from the IronKey (ability to browse the Internet securely FROM the IronKey)
7. Aside from protecting user's files it can serve as a strong, two-factor authentication device for One-Time Password or client-side x.509 Digital Certificate Authentication.
8. Microsoft Windows, Mac OSX and Linux compatible
Worth it in my opinion? Definitely!!
Can it be cracked/hacked? Very difficult and nearly impossible unless physically attained (and even this is currently not realistically possible)
Hope this helps!
