At first glance, the thing that stands out about the Motorola Flipout is its shape. The square designs measures 67 x 67 mm from the front, making it very compact indeed. The 17 mm depth is perhaps a touch deeper than many phones, however the Flipout does sport a full Qwerty keypad which is hidden away underneath the screen. For people who do like to e mail or message, Motorola have taken a leaf out of Blackberrys book by fitting a five row Qwerty keypad. Rather than working as a slider design, the screen neatly pivots revealing the keypad which also boasts a single numeric row of keys. A 3.5mm headphone socket is also fitted to the model, meaning the all important multi media facilities can be enjoyed on a range of headphones. The inclusion of a micro SD card slot allows for memory upto 32GB to fitted, the handset does come supplied with a 2GB card to get you started though.
The Motorola Flipout runs on the impressive Android 2.1 platfrom and boasts and impressive range of multimedia facilities. With regards to photography a 3 mega pixel camera is fitted which benefits from a digital zoom facility. Despite being fixed focus the picture can be edited afterwards with a range of advanced editing features. GeoTagging is also supported thanks to the phones built in GPS. Video can also be captured on the Flipout at a rate of 26-30 frames per second. A host of audio file formats is supported to allow the user to effectively use the handset as a portable audio player. MP3, WMA and AAC are amongst the supported files. An FM radio tuner is fitted in the unit to give the option of listening to radio stations rather than your own files. Video playback is also supported. Keeping in touch whilst on the move is vital and thanks to 3G, GPRS and EDGE this is not a problem for the Flipout. WiFi is also included meaning an even faster and more pleasing experience when connected to a local router.
