subject: What Are Typing Games? [print this page]

Getting kids to focus on their homework is hard enough, so you are probably wondering whether it is in any way possible to get them to devote an hour a day to typing. Feel free to take out the doubt from your mind; as you are about to find out how you can not only get your kids to learn to type, but also watch them enjoy doing so.

The internet brings you a world of opportunities and on running a search you will find a whole list of typing games that are intended to teach your kids to type the fun way. Typing games help kids develop various skills simultaneously. The direct purpose of a typing game is to develop typing accuracy and speed. Some games are based on subjects like mathematics, history etc, and help kids develop their attention and general knowledge as well.

Kids need to be taught step by step, and with this in mind some games start off with teaching kids which fingers they should use for specific keys. After this exercise, kids will be able to start practicing hitting keys without having to look at the keyboard. In time these games will acquaint kids with the basic skill of typing and if they continue to practice on a regular basis they will soon master the art of touch typing.

Initially it is recommended for parents to keep an eye on the kids while they are learning, as this will be the time that they are getting to know the basics and they will get it right only if they do the exercises right. Parents should also keep themselves around if the kids need any help with the games or tutorials.
