Ancient times showed extensive use of the Trestle Table. History shows the extreme difference in the various tables according to their uses. In the United States early west, where people moved from place to place, this table was utilized most because it fit into the wagons for use along the way. Many manufactures, including the Amish, have developed techniques which enable these loved items to produce newer styles of these high quality products.

In the Middle Ages royalty expected nothing but the best in everything. It was the same when they ordered hand carved furniture. The tables were richly decorated and often embellished with special carvings or additions to indicate the person's station in life. The ordinary man, on the other hand, usually had one that consisted of boards placed on two or more supports.

This is one of the most popular types of table on the market today. Striking in appearance with its lovely shining surface, it is a wonderful addition to any locale. When entertaining guests for dinner it adds to the pristine atmosphere when adorned with silver and fine tableware. Many times first impressions are crucial and this is true when one has very important guests.

These tables are very popular today and come in many different woods, such as red or white oak, cherry, maple, walnut, and hickory as well as in various styles. Many have leaves which allow a wide extension to 90 inches. It is possible to match any home's decor with an attractive addition of one of these tables. Tuscany and the Victorian Era are very popular in home decorations these days and this table fits in very well as it can be traced to these different eras.

Many different shapes of this table are available. They include oval, round, rectangle, and square. This enables a person decorating to make a selection that will fit in any room or area. Often used in conference areas this has the appeal of being able to seat a large number of people without worrying about numerous legs.

Designers have found that the ebony color unit works very well with the Urban Chic decor. In copying a European style, such as Tuscany or the Victorian Era, this table is a must if one wishes to be authentic. For an office, where a reserved business air is required, black or dark brown is preferred.

There are many different types and sizes of these tables available for practically any use. In the kitchen they make a very nice snack spot with the appropriate chairs or benches. Bar height units fit in very nicely next to a bar or kitchen counter. They are also available for use at picnics and in work spaces.

Very few of the old world tables are in existence today, but one can be found at the Ridjksmuseum Amsterdam-Museum. There one can view a Trestle Table that was made in the 1600's in Spain. Covered with exquisitely engraved silver tops, resting on bases covered with ebony veneer, it is an outstanding example of the work of that period.
