subject: Trestle Table Provide Durability And Function [print this page]

The history of trestle tables shows them going back into Tudor times. Varying from very basic to very ornate today's versions are priced accordingly. In the early West they were very popular as they could easily be placed in a covered wagon and transported to the next stop. The Amish, as well as other manufacturers, have become very adept at producing the usable Trestle Table with a very high quality finish.

In the Middle Ages royalty expected nothing but the best in everything. It was the same when they ordered hand carved furniture. The tables were richly decorated and often embellished with special carvings or additions to indicate the person's station in life. The ordinary man, on the other hand, usually had one that consisted of boards placed on two or more supports.

This is one of the most popular types of table on the market today. Striking in appearance with its lovely shining surface, it is a wonderful addition to any locale. When entertaining guests for dinner it adds to the pristine atmosphere when adorned with silver and fine tableware. Many times first impressions are crucial and this is true when one has very important guests.

Today many home decorators are going to themes in the Tuscan or Victorian Era. This furniture fits in this time period and is an excellent addition to the all over design. The many woods available, such as red or white oak, cherry, maple, walnut, and hickory makes it a "must have" for this type of decoration. This is also true when a simple western or homestead look is desired.

Many different shapes of this table are available. They include oval, round, rectangle, and square. This enables a person decorating to make a selection that will fit in any room or area. Often used in conference areas this has the appeal of being able to seat a large number of people without worrying about numerous legs.

Many of the modern designers have found that this style of table fits in very well with a planned decor. Tuscan and the Victorian Era are very popular in homes and accommodate this style table beautifully. Those preferring Urban Chic decor, which requires everything in monochromatic colors also are inclined to choose this type of furniture as it fits in very well with their decorating theme.

The type of trestle tables varies from bar height to work table. Their durability is well-known and many that belonged to great and great-great grandparents can still be found in today's homes. With care, through the years, their beauty has grown and they are a beautiful sight to behold. For the work table, some were and are used in the kitchen area. They are very convenient as a place for a brief snack and often are accompanied by matching benches.

Very few of the old world tables are in existence today, but one can be found at the Ridjksmuseum Amsterdam-Museum. There one can view a Trestle Table that was made in the 1600's in Spain. Covered with exquisitely engraved silver tops, resting on bases covered with ebony veneer, it is an outstanding example of the work of that period.
