If you are contemplating a special place for a break, why not consider a saint augustine bed and breakfast stay. Why? Let me explain: This delightful and historical city in the north east of Florida is said to be the oldest permanent European settlement on the American Continent. It got its splendid name when Menendez, the Spanish explorer, landed at the location on the twenty eighth of August in fifteen sixty five, which was chosen by the Catholic church as the feast day for the great Christian Saint Augustine. Menendez and his men came ashore at the former Native American village and decided to name the little village after the Saint.

Its name was bestowed when the Spanish explorer Menendez reached the shores on August Th 1565, the day chosen by the Catholic Church to celebrate the feast of St Augustine, the famous Christian saint. Menendez, accompanied by his trusty men decided they would honour the day and the saint by naming the former native village St Augustine.

There are lots of interesting and unique attractions. The Spanish Quarter Village is just one. Here actors portray residents and craftsmen of the period (the mid seventeen hundreds) lending a very authentic feel to the place.

This old sprawling city boasts a long tradition in chic. It is understandable that its charm and elegance has captivated travellers from the four corners of the earth, especially as underneath it all that old world laid-back southern warmth is always in evidence too. Many are surprised to learn that the city hosts over sixty theme- attractions, displaying the romantic pioneering spirit of yesteryear.

There is a popular attraction called the Old Town Trolley Tours which for over twenty five years has transported many thousands of joyful holiday makers all over the city. The guides on board the trolleys narrate fun trivia and give stories

A further interest is the Fountain of Youth attraction, a well-known and popular 15-acre waterfront park containing a fountain said to be the legendary fountain of youth. There is also, nearby, the Government House Museum and the intriguing Castillo De San Marcos amongst many other must see attractions.

There are a profusion of fine bed and breakfast establishments in and around St Augustine. They range from cosy, homely Victorian, to grand colonial, Spanish hacienda and ultra modern, so you are spoiled for choice. Prices range from $99 to $289 and upwards and all are in close proximity to glorious beaches and safe swimming. St Augustine bed and breakfast weekends or longer vacations will virtually guarantee you sunshine and culture all in one.
