subject: Creating Patterns in Illustrator CS2 [print this page]

Creating patterns in Illustrator CS2 that use custom objects is straightforward. To create a custom pattern tile, use existing artwork or create the artwork that will be turned into a pattern. Open the Swatches palette, if it is not already open. Select the artwork using the Selection tool. Drag the selected object to the Swatches palette and drop it onto the palette. Illustrator CS2 will create a pattern tile using the artwork you've dropped. The new pattern will appear in the Swatches palette. You may now use the new pattern to fill any other stroke or path.
