Rocket French is an on line French learning program. Does it actually work?
WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM?
Rocket French comes as a CD set or a downloadable package. The system has videos, software, and special audio recordings. In addition, you are given access to a "Learning Lounge" where you can test your progress, and connect with other students and teachers.
The idea behind the system is to try to teach French by "visual association". Visual association is the way you learned to speak your native language. You HEARD a word and SAW its meaning at the same time. In this manner you easily and quickly picked up the meanings of words. Rocket French tries to duplicate the process with the use of software, audio, and video.
HOW WELL DOES IT WORK?
If you are serious and willing to work with the material regularly, Rocket French is a very powerful way to learn to speak French. Ideally, you should attempt to work with the lessons for a little time every day (at least 30 min - 1 hr a day). The individual lessons are designed to build on one another. Because of this, being consistent is very important.
Learning a new language is much like learning to ride a bike. For the first 6 or 7 lessons you may think that you aren't getting anywhere. If you persist, however, you will come to a point when things suddenly come together. You will see that you are suddenly able to hear most of the words in the audio recordings and can create basic sentences easily.
From there you can go on to learn more vocabulary and more advanced grammar.
IS THIS THE BEST SYSTEM FOR EVERY ONE?
Some people find it hard to focus if there is no outside pressure like an upcoming "exam" or a teacher checking their "homework".
Rocket French is a learn at home approach. It is powerful but you have to provide the consistency yourself.
If you feel you might need the pressure of a class setting in order to take action, look into classes at a local college. Keep in mind that a class will cost more and can take longer.
