subject: Impacts of pregnancy anemia on maternal and infant health [print this page] After surveying on 400 newborn babies and their mothers in south-west region of Bangladesh and comparing various data, I obtained a result that about 63 % of pregnant mothers were anemic among which 11% severe anemic, 32% moderate anemic and 20 % were mild anemic. About 37 % anemic mother and about 23 % non-anemic mother were gained very low Weight during their pregnancy. About 14 % of anemic mother and about 9% of pregnant mother needed surgical delivery. About 17 % pre-term babies were found among anemic mother's baby where 8 % of non-anemic mother were pre-term born. Total prevalence of LBW baby was 14%, where about 18 % were found among anemic mother baby. About 16 % anemic mother's baby were found birth length below the 5th percentile cutoff point and 19 % were found head circumference below 5th percentile cut off point on the contrary this rate is 8 % and 10 % among non-anemic mother baby respectively. About 49 % pregnant mother were experienced complication during pregnancy where this rate is 43 % for non-anemic mother. About 42 % anemic mother and 34 % non-anemic mother were malnourished based on BMI method. According to MUAC 44 % anemic and 33 % non-anemic mother were malnourished. Finally I reached in the consumption that pregnancy anemia greatly affect fetus development, pregnancy out come, maternal health and newborn's health condition and nutrition.
