subject: Mounting Inkjet Canvas - The Basics Of Mounting Inkjet Canvas [print this page]

When you are mounting inkjet canvas materials, you will find that the process is actually quite a simple 4-step task. If you are not inherently an art person, you might find the process is simpler than it appears. The first thing you need to do is buy stretcher bars and assemble them. This is step 1. You can buy stretcher bars at your local art supplier or art store, or you can buy them online. Many people buy them online in order to get the best selection. Wherever you buy them, you need to assemble them. Assembly consists of laying them down on the floor and putting them together in the desired shape.

The second step of mounting inkjet canvas onto stretcher bars is to lay out the canvas under the stretcher bars and cut the canvas so that you will have enough left over to fold it over the bars and staple it. It is okay to cut it too big, because you can trim more later if you need to. You can never uncut a cut that is too drastic, but you can always trim more later. It is not unlike a haircut that way. This step is easy and the next one is not very hard either. Grab your staple gun; it's time to attach this canvas to the frame.

The third step in this process is to staple, fold, and staple some more. You start always with the centres of the bars, making an even distribution of staples and tension. Start with the top bar and then do the bottom bar, and do the same equal distribution of tension from side to side. You can keep on stapling all around the outside in the same format. Always keep the tension equal on both sides. At each corner, you want to fold over any additional canvas material and tuck it in nicely to staple that.

At this point, you are nearly done with your mounting inkjet canvas job. Make any final necessary trims to the canvas and you are all done. The only thing left to do is hang it on the wall and enjoy, or put a pretty bow on it to give it away. It really depends on what your plan for your project is. Enjoy it, because you have put it on the stretcher bars yourself, and that is a great accomplishment if this is a new job for you.
