If the Siren call of the islands is tempting you to plan a Caribbean vacation, then there are just three things youll need to do: Choose an island, pack your swimsuit and book a Caribbean hotel as quickly as you can.

Accomplishing the second item on the list is simple, but with thousands of vacation-worthy islands and a nearly endless array of Caribbean hotels to choose from numbers one and three can be tricky. So to help would-be vacationers get down to the business of getting away, Marriott International, Inc., one of the worlds leading lodging companies, has developed a list of the Caribbeans most popular islands and what theyre known for. They include:

Aruba. This 21-mile long island is renowned for its distinctive Dutch feel as well as the white sand beaches the northwestern coast which is where most of the islands Caribbean hotels are located. Arubas major tourist hubs boast upscale, duty-free shopping, dining and nightlife, as well as SCUBA, kite-surfing and a myriad of water sports.

Curacao. With a land area of 171 square miles, Curacao is the largest and most populous island of the Lesser Antilles. Boasting beautiful beaches, a wide range of museums and spectacular dive locations, the Curacao is often referred to as one of the most sophisticated islands in the Caribbean.

U.S. Virgin Islands. St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John are collectively known as Americas Caribbean and welcome nearly 2.5 million vacationers a year. All of these unique islands are known for powdery beaches, water sports and dining. But only St. Thomas can lay claim to Magens Bay and the Mahogany Run golf course, which is known for a challenging trio of cliff-side holes often referred to as the Devils Triangle.

St. Kitts & Nevis. A nature lovers delight, St. Kitts & Nevis feature exceptional bird watching, botanical gardens and lush landscapes that beg to be explored. As for the islands beaches theyre soft and powdery and boast plenty of beach bars and cafes where visitors can enjoy the relaxed pace of island living.

Grand Cayman. At roughly 76 square miles, Grand Cayman is the largest of the three Cayman Islands. And with world-class SCUBA diving, snorkeling, turtle farms and upscale dining, its a Caribbean destination that draws families and couples from around the globe.

Dominican Republic. Spanning more than half of Hispaniola, the D.R. is a sophisticated island nation brimming with activities. From windsurfing to the New Worlds oldest city (Santo Domingo), 19 national parks to its 1,000-plus miles of pristine coastline, guests at the islands Caribbean hotels can truly catch a glimpse of paradise.

Trinidad and Tobago. Located just 21 miles apart, these two islands offer vastly different experiences. Trinidad is lively, boisterous and hosts a world-famous Carnival every year, while quiet Tobago offers a laid-back island vibe. Both, of course, boast lush landscapes and miles of beaches.
