Both homeowners and apartment renters have one common dilemma in their everyday living. They need to cut back on energy bills without sacrificing the comfort, which electricity brings. Aside from having the power to select the energy provider to subscribe to, consumers do not have much influence on the rate of the consumption of energy. What you, as a consumer, can do is to search for energy efficient heating appliances to reduce electric consumption.

There are many choices for supplemental heating out in the market today. Examples of heating appliances are natural gas fireplace inserts, wood stoves, pellet stoves, as well as electric space heaters. The latter is deemed as the most energy efficient among all the choices. This is because electricity is found to be 100% efficient.

In order to further cut back on energy consumption by using electric space heaters, you should always use the thermostat. You should set it at a level that is comfortable for you and your family. If you decide to run your heater to the highest setting, you will soon find out that the level of extra comfort it will bring you is not equal to the cost it will generate.

For heaters that do not have its own thermostat, you can by in any hardware store a programmable outlet thermostat. You can place the removable thermostat on any part of the room you want to monitor. Do this in order to lessen your energy rates. This will not only benefit you in the winter months but also in the summer days when you use air conditioners.

Another way to lessen energy rates is by using a surge protector or a power strip. There are many appliances that are always turned on even when not in use such as television, electric space heaters and battery chargers. With the power strip, you can stop the flow of electricity to the said appliances without having to remove their electric sockets.

All consumers have the power to choose to lessen their energy consumption. Not only will the power strip save on electric bills, it will also protect your home from dangerous overloaded circuits.
