subject: Understanding The Main Seven Chakras [print this page]

Chakra, translated as the wheel as well is a Sanskrit word. The Chakras infuse on the physical body at particular points. These are also referred to as the centers of forces.

The seven primary chakras are:

Muladhara- Base or Root Chakra; Swadhisthana - ovaries/prostate; Manipura- Solar Plexus Chakra which is at the navel area; Anahata - Heart Chakra located at the heart area; Vishuddha - Throat Chakra located at throat and neck area; Ajna - Brow or Third Eye Chakra;Sahasrara - Crown Chakra at the top of the head

It is at the base of the spine that the chakras begin and finish at the top of the head. It is the central spinal column that the chakras are fixed in.

Vibration of the chakras is at different speeds. The slowest speed is at the root or first chakra and the highest speed is at the crown or seventh chakra. Stimulation of each chakra is on its own. Following are the colors of the chakras: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, Violet.

Chakras size and brightness varies with individual development; physical condition; energy levels; disease stress.

Either with imbalance of the chakras or blocked energies the force gets slowed down. A constant balance should be maintained between health and the chakras for promotion of sense of well being.

When we block our feeling or stop natural flow of energy, we start reacting to unpleasant experiences. Development and maturation of chakras gets impacted due to this. Chakras are blocked if we block our experiences. Chakras then get disfigured. During normal functioning each chakra will open and spin clockwise to metabolize the particular energies desirable from the universal field of energy.

First Chakra is the Root - is located at the spine base at the pubic bone in front and the tailbone in back. The root chakra is connected powerfully to our contact with the Mother Earth which provides us with the capability to be grounded into the earth plane.

The second chakra is the belly chakra. Located just two inches below the navel and rooted into the spine, the center holds the essential requirements for creativity, sexuality, self-worth and intuition.

Third Chakra or the Solar Plexus is the centre for strength, anger, place of ego, personal power and passion. This chakra is located two inches beneath the breastbone in the center behind the stomach.

Fourth Chakra is also known as the heart chakra. This is the center for spirituality, love and compassion.

Fifth Chakra or the throat chakra is the center to express sound, creativity and communication.

Sixth Chakra is also known as the Third Eye. This is the center for the energies of spirit and light, ability and higher intuition

Seventh Chakra, the Crown: This chakra is the center of spirituality, enlightenment, dynamic thought and energy.
