A penknife can be used for scraping off the rust, then the area can be sprayed with rust-proof compound, this is usually available in aerosol cans. Start washing the car from top to bottom. Start with the roof, then moving to the hood, both sides, grille and rear panel. Wash one section at a time. Use the sponge and lather the section with the soapy solution, press down to loosen the dirt and grime. Before the solution dries, the section should be sprayed with water using a garden hose. Then move to the next section.
Step 6:
After the car has been washed, spray it with water once again. Then use a chamois to dry it but first soak it in water and bring it out. Begin with the roof and move from section to section. Wring out the chamois as it becomes saturated. Clean the windows with the glass cleaner.
Step 7:
Finally, the body can be inspected for any tar and residue. Use a tar-and-bug solvent for removing it.
