What the Families USA Study Found
This latest report, Lives on the Line: The Deadly Consequences of Delaying Health Reform warns that daily death rates would grow from 68 in 2010 to 84 by 2019. In addition, the report found that since 1995 when the last health care reform was debated, more than 290,000 American adults, aged 25 to 64, died prematurely due to lack of health coverage.
What is of particular concern, remarks Weinstock, is that California had, by far, the highest number of premature deaths; something that could have been decreased with access to the proper health insurance. Even more alarming is that experts say that the new studys estimates of premature death probably err on the conservative side.
The report indicated that the link between a lack of health coverage and premature death occurs because the uninsured dont have a regular source of health care or access to preventive care and, therefore, delay or forgo needed medical attention.
What California Seniors Should Do
In the case of seniors who will soon or already have become eligible for Medicare, Weinstock suggests, The best thing to do is to know your options well before you turn sixty-five. That includes not only knowing about Medicare Parts A through D, but also understanding how Medicare supplement insurance may be right for you.
That is why it is important for seniors to ask questions and do the research so that you understand what they need to know about Medicare Parts A through D, Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare supplement insurance , also known as Medigap.
