Nokia's recently launched 6700 Classic is the latest candybar smartphone from the company. It is a Quad-band GSM and a Tri-band WCDMA phone that runs on the Series 40 6th Edition operating system, supporting some of the leading-edge features found on mobile phones costing twice.

A great phone at a great price

Price/feature ratio on this is at the top. Nokia just launched another winner that's up on the heels of its highly popular cousins in the 6300 line. For its price, there's really nothing else you have to ask for. The 6700 sports features that is common in its high end E and N series just a year ago.

Cased in a steel body, the 6700 Classic feels solid in your hands. Nokia made it a point to leverage on the preceding 6300's excellent construction and durable build to make sure that it doesn't disappoint its loyal markets which Nokia hopes to win with the new 6700 as a fitting and better replacement.

With imaging, multimedia and browsing functions becoming the standard features for mid-priced phones for the top end of the mass markets, the 6700 comes as no surprise to target that segment with a mobile phone that has the potential to sweep the competition away.

- It has a 2.2" QVGA LCD screen supporting 16 million colors that's often rare even in phones costing twice.

- It has Adaptive brightness that automatically adjusts the screen's brightness according to ambient lighting.

- There's Gesture Control. When a call comes in and you don't feel like answering, just turn the phone face down on the table and the call gets rejected.

- There's built-in GPS navigation system with Nokia Maps

Outstanding Multimedia Experience

- It sports a 5 megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash for vibrant photos even in low light.

- It has audio and video players that supports the popular file formats in the market

- There's FM radio with RDS.

- Its uses the WebKit open source internet browser made popular in Nokia's higher end E And N series phones, and

- 3G and HSDPA support for truly fast internet browsing and downloads.

- It's got a generous 170 Mb internal memory that can be expanded up to 8GB with support for a microSD expansion slot. This feature comes in quite handy when you have to handle large multimedia files for music and video on the road.

Verdict

This is one great value for a mobile phone of the 21st century. Nothing fancy, but shares and improves on the best that the competition even on a higher price point.
