subject: Straight Hair Using Flat Iron [print this page]

Even if hair is extremely curly, accomplishing perfectly straight hair can be easy with the right techniques and use of a flat iron.

Products required

Wide tooth comb

Handheld hairdryer

Straightening hair serum

Flat iron

Six Bands or clips

Steps

1. After a shower, air dry hair until it is a little damp. With a large, wide tooth comb, remove all tangles

2. Apply a straightening serum. This will help smooth and straighten. There are several great straightening products on the market that very in price.

3. With a handheld hairdryer, blow dry hair until it is completely dry. To style and add volume, use a round hairbrush as blow drying the hair. If curling under or out is the preferred look, proceed with that motion by using a round powder brush.

4. Section hair using clips or bands. First divide it in two layers - the top and bottom. Then depending on the volume and length separate each layer into smaller sections. Most probably there will be about three sections with each layer.

5. With one section, continually partition it until there is a small piece. At a medium speed, lightly run the flat iron through the small section starting at the root, all the way through the end of the hair. It may be necessary to repeat. Keep in mind not to move too slowly as the hair could get burnt and severely damaged.

6. Once the one section is completed, gather it all up again as one part and run the straightening iron through it again.

7. For getting a finished look, go on to every section.

8. To smooth down any flyaways, set hair with hair spray.

Additional Tips

To flip the hair out or under, use flat iron plates with curve on the ends. This can also create many different styles. If you need additional volume, use the iron at the crown of the head.
