One of the most popular sporting events in the Unites States today is the Indianapolis 500 (official name is the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race). This is an automobile racing event that is held each Memorial Day weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, located in Speedway, Indiana. This sporting event is often seen advertised as "The Greatest Spectacle In Racing", and is one of the oldest events of its kind, as well as the largest, anywhere in the world.

In 1995, Midway Manufacturing Company, under the trade name Bally, introduced its popular Indianapolis 500 pinball machine, much to the excitement of racing and pinball fans everywhere. Only 2,200 units were produced, and the Indianapolis 500 pinball machine is now considered to be highly collectible.

About The Popular Racing Event

In 1909, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was constructed, and before the popular racing event, was host to a number of smaller events. The first 500-mile race was held at the speedway in 1911, with 82,000 spectators in attendance. From the first race until 1916, the event was billed as the "International 500-Mile Sweepstakes Race", but even in its beginnings, the event was commonly referred to as one of four names: "The 500", "The 500-Mile Race", the "Indianapolis 500" and "the Indy 500".

1971 saw the first females to be allowed into the pit area, and since then, there have been five drivers to be entered in the Indianapolis 500: Sarah Fisher, Milka Duno, Lyn St. James, Janet Guthrie and Danica Patrick.

The Excitement of Pinball And Racing In One Great Game

The Indianapolis 500 pinball machine from Bally features 11 modes of play, and has everything you could possibly want in an awesome arcade game, including light-up targets, ramps and terrific sound effects, created by Chris Ganner, who also created the music for the game that was designed by Dennis Nordman.

The artwork for the Indianapolis 500 arcade game was created by none other than Dan Hughes and Paul Barker, with dots/animation by Adam Rhine and Brian Morris. This game has loads of fun and exciting features, including the voice of long-time Indy announcer Tom Carnegie. Other features of the Indianapolis 500 pinball machine include three flippers, an autoplunter, multi-ball action and a digital game in DMD. Toys include a spinning car that shakes the machine.

Who Is Bally Electronics?

The name Bally has been around since 1932. Bally Electronics was founded in 1968, and was originally known as Advanced Patent Technologies, changing to Alliance Gaming Corporation, and finally to Bally Gaming and Systems in 1996. The company went into the casino business in the late 70's, and also delved into the world of home computer gaming systems.

In the 1980's, Midway, which was acquired by Bally in the late 1960's, became the company's big money-maker, introducing such classic arcade games as Space Invaders and Pac-Man. By the mid-90's, most of the pinball manufacturers had disappeared from the pinball world, and Bally began to focus on gambling systems for casinos and other areas of its business. Today, many of the Bally arcade games are considered to be highly collectible, and are a great addition to any games room.
