subject: Got A House Full Of Unused Items? Get Them Sold Today! [print this page] As a country, we may have been officially out of the global recession for almost two full quarters now, but that's not to say that we aren't still feeling the effects.
Petrol prices have risen to the highest level that they ever have been; the price of groceries seems to have increased to such an extent that a weekly shop needs to be well thought through and whilst the cost of entertainment such as the cinema may not have changed much, it is still high enough to warrant a second thought.
If you're one of the millions of people who are in a position like this, you may think that you need to get a second job to survive. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done at the moment, with UK unemployment standing at 8% as of March 2010, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Don't be too concerned, though, as just because you can't find an additional job doesn't mean that you have to struggle until the after effects of the recession are completely behind us.
The way around it?
Sell all of the unused items in your house and make a fortune.
That phrase may seem somewhat farfetched upon first reading it, but to all intents and purposes it is correct and by selling items in online auctions that you no longer need, you could look to make several hundreds of pounds.
Of course, not everything in your house will be of use to everyone else, but in a general household, it's likely that there's going to be a respectable amount of items that will sell well and it's simply a case of understanding what is most attractive to others.
Music, such as CDs and vinyl, are a prime example of items that perform well in online auctions. If you've got a collection of 200 CDs or vinyl but you've transferred them all to MP3 format and are keeping them for no other reason than their aesthetics, think of them in individual prices - even if you made one pound on each of them, that would be 200 pound for you to spend on something you need, purely for selling items that you were no longer using or actually needed.
It's also worthwhile checking any pieces of pottery or ceramic models that you have, whether they're on display and you think they may actually be worth something or you've packed them away and put them in the loft as you believe they're nothing more than mass-produced figurines. Even if they aren't of particular value financially, they may have aesthetic value to someone else.
The internet is an expansive resource of information and it can help you to date even the most obscure of objects. You may think that your house is full of items that either only you could want or are completely invaluable, but the truth is everything has a price and is of interest to someone - it's just a matter of finding out what you have that is the most valuable to others.
