subject: Success In Social Media Can Create An Explosion In The Blogosphere If Twitter Catches On! [print this page]

The "ENGAGEMENTdb study" conducted by the companies Wetpaint and the Altimeter group studied the effects of using social media in the profitability of businesses. According to the study, companies that had breadth and depth in terms of engagement with the clients using social media found their revenues growing by 18 percent in the last year. Those who did not take advantage of social media to engage clients had their revenues drop by an average of 6 percent.

This means that engaging clients and really stepping up your public relations affect the bottom line of the business. In simple terms, client engagement= increase in profits. The study was conducted on how global brands used social media to engage clients. The study covered the following channels used by the global brands: blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Forums and Wikis. The study was conducted using 100 Global brands. Among the 100 brands that were used for the study, the following companies emerged as top brands in terms of public engagement using social media: Starbucks, Dell, eBay, Google, Microsoft, Thomson Reuters, Nike, Amazon, and SAP.

According to the study one of the things common with these companies experiencing success in social media is that they have dedicated teams that focus on the companies' social media accounts. This means that the companies have active accounts that are updated daily. Without the distractions from the other tasks that need to be done in the office, these dedicated personnel are able to focus all their time and energy on creating meaningful contents for the different social media. They are also able to engage people within their networks in meaningful conversations that help the clients form positive feelings about the company.

If you want to replicate the success that these companies had, you should definitely considering forming your own social media team. The team does not have to be composed of many members. In fact the team could simply be composed of you, the business owner, and one virtual assistant who can work on the social media content and also spend all her working hours updating the social media accounts and "talking" to clients and potential customers. Initially, it may be hard to measure of the effects of social media in your business. But it's not rocket science. If you really think about it, when you engage clients and transmit positive messages about your company and your products to the public then only good things could come out of your efforts right?
