subject: Cool Computer Cases - Light, Medium And Hard Modifications [print this page]

Gamers and personal computer enthusiasts alike spend exorbitant amounts of money on their gaming rigs. From high-end components that can rip apart the latest in software and games to the biggest monitors and best sound systems that provide the best immersion and experience. A portion of this demographic goes even further by modifying their computer cases, whether it's to show off their technical skill or just for a more aesthetically pleasing view. There are several levels of difficulty involved in modifying a computer case, but after seeing many cool computer cases, you're probably wondering how you can try that out. Well, here's some information on possible modifications you could make to your computer.

Minor Modification

Computer cases are typically easy to take apart and swap out, though finding the correct pieces to replace them can be a little harder. One example of an easy change is putting in a 'window', which is effectively a transparent, plastic side panel, allowing anyone to see inside the computer. On the whole, it might still be pretty dark or boring, so to spice things up, you could put in some lighting systems. There are fans and liquid cooling systems that come with such lighting, but for the best effect, you could place your own lights. LEDs can fit anywhere in the case and can connect to spare connectors, such as the 4-pin molex variety. The right combination can lead to a beautiful light show.

This is one of the most common and easiest ways to modify your computer case. Some come ready made with transparent side panels and LEDs, but there's nothing like bit of personal customization. Furthermore, you can save some money by doing your own work. This level of modification is the cheapest by far, but offers only a low-level of cool looking effects.

Moderate Enhancements

In combination with previously mentioned modifications or used on its own, this is a further level of customization that is simple, but requires a little more care. Spray-painting your case can add a little more colors, especially if you're using lights or a window side panel. You could even spray paint on contrasting colors in specific designs, either to show off your artistic side or just for the aesthetically pleasing aspect. If included with the previous types of modification, this can start to grow expensive, but on it's own, you can still spend very little in such customization.

Heavy Modification

This is for the engineers, sculptors and artists out there. Utilizing body filler, it's possible to create customized shapes for your computer to reside it. While there are some rules of thumb, such as where to house the components and ensuring it provides cooling solutions, it can have some tremendous results. There have been computer cases in the shapes of robots, aircraft, household appliances, fishtanks and many more. However, this can lead to very high expenses, so a budget and plans should be made beforehand to ensure the best results.

For other modifications to your computer, there is component-modification, such as adding a window to a hard drive. This is inadvisable and is simply here as an example. Generally, components are exceptionally easy to damage, so either utmost care should be taken or these products should be bought ready-modified by professional companies.
