Samsung's venture into the world of communicator mobiles comes in the form of the new Omnia Pro B7610. In a market dominated by the likes of the HTC Touch Pro2, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, or the most of the Nokia N and E series mobiles, Samsung will have a lot of catching up to do. However, with a device that's loaded with a multitude of features and functions, this is probably their best bet. Things are looking good for both the new Omnia and the company as well.

At a Glance

The B7610 has a full QWERTY slider form factor and has the dimensions of 112.6 x 57.8 x 16.2 mm. Its front surface is dominated by the 3.5-inch AMOLED touch screen that has a WVGA resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Under the hood is an 800 MHz processor (make is yet unknown) which will run the B7610's Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system. No need to fret as Samsung has integrated its proprietary TouchWiz interface with the mediocre Micrososft OS to come up with a fully customized and appealing UI.

Also on board is a 5-Megapixel camera that has the basic features such as autofocus and a dual LED flash. Aside from having added functions such as geo-tagging, best shot, and panorama shot, the B7610's snapper can also shoot images of up to 2592 x 1944 in pixel ratio.

Best Features

If we were to pinpoint some of the B7610's best features, it would have to boil down to two. The first is its touch screen display that makes use of Samsung's AMOLED technology, which was designed in-house. It makes things a lot easier for users and enables the device to be more optimized for touch. Samsung has also made use of its expertise in the field of LCD technology and has somewhat applied it on the B7610's display. The result is a high resolution screen that is able to produce image quality of the highest level.

Second on the list has to be the TouchWiz 2.0 user interface. This too is a proprietary type of technology from Samsung. The eye candy value of this UI makes us forget about the monotony of Windows Mobile and its boring icons and display. It is also user-friendly and has a very quick learning curve which helps in providing the user with the best navigation experience possible.
