subject: Declutter Now - It's in the Power of Your Mind! [print this page] Having the right mindset when you are attempting to declutter your home and reclaim your space is critical to your success. Most people underestimate the importance of this fact and that is why they get overwhelmed and quit when working to organize their home.
I know it is definitely true for me, because unless my head is in it, it doesn't matter what I try to do, I end up not getting anything of real substance accomplished. Sometimes I end up quitting on a project way to quickly because I got overwhelmed with the "big picture" and couldn't get past all the annoying details. Unless I have the right mindset from start to finish, I'll end up quitting way too early.
Having the right plan of attack is all about choosing the correct goal for the decluttering. You should always set a goal before you attempt to do any decluttering. Make sure your goal is realistic and clear in your mind so you don't get bogged down with details that don't have to be bothered with to reach your goal.
Your goal that you've chosen should be small and easy to accomplish, and then do not do anything that detracts from you reaching that goal. Work hard to resist the inevitable distractions you'll run into! Keep your eyes on that goal, and nothing else! Don't focus on the whole clutter problem, just worry about getting your one goal accomplished.
Why is it so important to stick the one goal you set and not stop until you reach it? Well, for one, it gives you an area you can look back and see definite improvement in. But more importantly it is a big morale boost for you; it feels great to accomplish goals and motivates you to do more. Little goal after little goal, you'll soon have your home in tip-top shape, more organized and stress-free than ever before!
