subject: Lights, Camera, Action: The New Samsung Pixon 12 by:Simon Drew [print this page] Not even a year after releasing the revolutionary Pixon M8800 with an amazing 8-Megapixel camera, Samsung is at it again with the all new Samsung Pixon 12, which now has an even more powerful 12-Megapixel snapper. It's quite astonishing to think how far mobile phones have come in terms of their built-in cameras. Not so long ago did the Sony Ericsson K800i Cyber-shot hold the title of best in the biz with its 3.2-Megapixel camera. Now, we have a device that even has higher standards than most commercial digital cameras. This however, is not the only thing the Pixon 12 has going for it. Also on board are a whole lot of features that make this device even more impressive.
Lights
The pomp and pageantry isn't all about the Pixon 12's high end camera. Aside from all the basic functions of an advanced mobile phone, one of the Pixon 12's best features has to be its 3.1-inch resistive touch screen. Its display also has Samsung's AMOLED technology built-in which does not only produce high resolution images (480 x 800 pixels), but also provides a lower power consumption.
The Pixon 12's use of another proprietary Samsung technology, the TouchWiz user interface, means that the mobile is quick and very responsive. Applications load at a very quick rate and navigation of the menu is silky smooth.

However, the pick of the bunch still has to be its 12-Megapixel snapper. Aside from the basic features such as autofocus and dual flash units (LED & Xenon flash), the Pixon 12's camera also has an amazing 28 mm wide-angle lens. This is one of, if not the widest lens we've ever encountered in a mobile phone as it provides users with a 20% increase in the width of their viewing angle. This extra feature is controlled by the camera itself as it selects the optimum angle for a particular shot. Other handy features include image stabilization, geo-tagging, face, blink & smile detection, and smart auto shot.
Action
The Samsung Pixon 12 is also an action-packed device when it comes to multimedia features. It has a built-in media player that is not only user-friendly and nice to look at, but can also support a variety of media file formats (WMA, MP3, and AAC for audio; MP4, WMV, DivX, and XviD for videos). It also has a TV out option which will lets users connect the Pixon 12 directly to a television set to view videos and images on the TV's screen. A downside of the device is the absence of a 3.5 mm ear jack which means users will not be able to use standard headsets with the Pixon 12.
