subject: How Is Laser Liposuction Used To Remove Unwanted Fatty Tissue From The Body? [print this page]

Laser liposuction is a less invasive procedure that allows surgeons to remove unwanted fatty tissue from the body by melting them. A special laser is used to melt the fatty cells inside the body with heat and energy. Then small incisions are made to suck the liquid fat out of the body.

Laser liposuction has been dubbed Smart Lipo or sometimes called "lunch time lipo." These nicknames are meant to illustrate how simple the laser has made the process of removing fat from the body. Under normal circumstances patients are able to have laser liposuction and then return to work the next day.

The laser only requires the use of a local anesthetic as apposed to a patients being put out completely with a general anesthetic. Local anesthesia is less expensive of its self. It also makes it easier for the surgeons to create an out patient situation.

Local anesthesia combined with the less invasive procedure cuts down on the costs of liposuction. The out patient opportunity also helps save time and money for both the patient and the doctor. These are some of the reasons this procedure has become so popular.

The recovery time is a much faster process due to the localized laser work. There is less swelling, bruising, and scaring than in traditional liposuction methods because there is not need to manually loosen the fat in order to remove it. This is the most desirable aspect of laser liposuction compared to other options.

Doctors are able to place a girdle on their patients for as little as four days to create the right shape and healing. With other procedures the girdle would need to be worn for up to six weeks and the healing process would be longer.

A disadvantage to the laser capabilities is the chance of burning. The surgeons are continually working to find the perfect heat that will not burn the remaining sells or damage the surrounding area of the body. For the most part this is a small problem compared to the benefits. It can cause excessive pain if a surgeon is not sufficiently trained.

Many cosmetic surgeons are using laser liposuction and have reasonable experience to help patients get the best results. Patients are encouraged to speak with their doctor before making the decision to have liposuction treatments whether they are laser or standard procedures. Looking for a seasoned surgeon is very important to the health, the results, and the healing process.
