subject: Monopoly Meets The Pinball Machine [print this page]

Since Monopoly was patented in 1935, it is estimated that more than 750 million players have enjoyed this fun board game. Now, the popular real estate-themed board game is in a new version: Monopoly: Own It All. This is another classic from Stern Pinball, Inc., the only company in the world still manufacturing coin-operated pinball machines. This is a three-player game that sold more than 3,600 units before being taken out of production.

Monopoly History

As mentioned above, Monopoly was introduced to the world in 1935. It is considered to be the most commercially successful board game in the history of the US, with hundreds of millions more players around the world. Monopoly has been inducted into the Games Magazine Hall of Fame, and is one of the most popular games of all time. There are two main versions of Monopoly, the US and the UK versions, which have subtle differences, such as street names and taxes.

The object of Monopoly is to purchase property, charge rent on that property, and bankrupt your opponents, thus winning the game. Each player starts out with $200 from the bank, and they earn money each time they pass "Go", charge rent, land on "Free Parking" or receive one of the many Chance or Community Chest cards that offer such rewards as $10 for winning first place in a beauty pageant!

Monopoly In Pinball Form

This is another awesome game designed by Pat Lawler Design, and has all of the classic pinball features players want in their games. The objective of the Monopoly pinball machine is the same as the board game: move your piece around the board, collect properties, and (here's where it differs from the board game), lock balls. Pass "Go" and the multi-ball action begins. Features of this super-fun pinball game include:

- Electric Company Billboard

- Bi-Directional Rotating Mini-Flipper in the Water Works

- Ride on the Railroad Ramp

- Break the Bank

- Shoot the Upper Ramps for Big Monopoly Bucks

- Horizontally Opening Bank Vault Door

- Rotating Flipper

- LED Marquee

- 6 Pop Bumpers

- 3 Flippers (in addition to the rotating flipper)

- 4 Multi-Ball Modes

Advertising slogans for the Monopoly pinball game included "Own It All" and "Be A Tycoon". This game was also available in a platinum edition, signed by Pat Lawler, John Youssi and Gary Stern. Only 40 units were made, the amount of spaces on a Monopoly board.

This is a game that will be loved by players of all ages, and is great to have in any games room, arcade or corporate breakout room. Soon to be a collectible, this is a game that is loads of fun, and is a great game for the entire family. Just remember that everyone needs to take turns!
