subject: Buy Now Or Regret It Later The Influence Of Point Of Sale Advertising [print this page]

Point of sale wouldnt have been invented if it wasnt proven that it had some sort of financial benefit to the vendor or shop keeper and indeed it has been proven that point of sale advertising is seriously lucrative. Often advertising at the point of sale is for the benefit of new customers rather than regulars but this is not always the case. It is certainly the case for tobacco companies who have quickly realised that smokers tend to stick to one brand of cigarette and therefore point of sale advertising is in fact pointless. However, children and young people are incredibly easily influenced and they are the tobacco companies main target so advertising at the point of sale is something that is incredibly powerful in getting a customer for life.

This is not true of all market places but point of sale advertising is a great tool for promoting a new movie, album or book and couldnt be better for promoting end of season stock, sale items or last chance to buy. These can be aimed at regular shoppers, young people or first time buyers, theyre also a great way of enticing in people that wouldnt normally buy from that particular store, so you see it really is about a lot more than just some pretty signage to decorate the walls, shelves or tills with.

Point of sale advertising can be a great way of encouraging repeat customers, if theyve been drawn in and bought something, theyre likely to stop by and have another look to see if they can bag a great bargain if you can consistently offer great products and advertise them in an eye-catching way, youre on to a financial winner.

Its not all about sale products either, advertising at point of sale is something that works really well for launching new products or advertising celebrity book signings and the like, the sky really is the limit because snap frames and A boards are almost limitless when it comes to size and shape, you just need to find the company that offers what you need. Point of sale advertising works on the theory that if you say something enough times it becomes truth and thats exactly what retailers want their customers to buy into. Targeted customers subtly over and over again will not only cause them to think that whatever your advertising must be the best or the cheapest or the latest and these small effects will eventually accumulate to form serious and influential brand power and increased sales its amazing what a humble pavement sign can do for the bottom line.
