How many phone calls do you think you will have to make before you happen to get lucky and find someone who was just waiting by a phone hoping someone would call them and sell them a widget? Well, that's just about what it's like when you send a website visitor from your ad directly to the merchant's sales page.

You have no relationship with the web site visitor. They have no trust in you. In fact, they will think that you are actually the merchant, because there will be nothing that tells them otherwise. Further, whether they buy or not, you will have no idea who they are, what they are really interested in, and why they clicked on your ad. With no way to know contact them in the future, you will have no future hope of ever getting more money from them.

What's the answer?

A well designed, simple landing page that asks the web visitor for their name and email address in exchange for a high value free gift related to the product or service you will soon be selling them. In other words, a squeeze page, a sign-up or opt-in form.

When your prospective customer first lands on your very own sign-up form before seeing the sales page you have the opportunity to add value, develop a relationship, get to know them, and market to them in the future. Of course, you will send them to the merchant's sales copy page ... eventually. You just don't do it right away.

When you use an effective landing page, one that captures the name and email address of the web site visitor, you will increase the power of your affiliate marketing campaigns ten fold.
