Rocket Japanese is an on-line Japanese learning program. Does it really work?
WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM?
Rocket Japanese comes as a CD set or a downloadable package. Inside you will find audio recordings, special software games, videos, and more. In addition, you are given access to a Learning Lounge where you can test your skills, and connect with other students and instructors.
The idea is to teach Japanese by a system known as Visual Association. Visual association is the way you learned to speak your native language. You SAW an object and HEARD the word simultaneously. In this way you effortlessly and quickly learned the meanings of words. Rocket Japanese attempts to duplicate this process with the use of audio, video, and specially designed software.
HOW WELL DOES IT WORK?
Rocket Japanese is a powerful way to learn Japanese, IF you are sincere and willing to put in time on a regular basis. Ideally, you should aim to view the lessons for some time each day (30min to 1hr at least). The lessons are designed to build on each other. Therefore, being consistent is very important.
Picking up a language is much like learning to ride a bike. For the first week or so you may feel that you aren't getting anywhere. If you keep going, however, you will hit a point when things suddenly "fall into place". You will find that you are suddenly able to hear most of the words in the audio recordings and can make basic sentences easily.
Then you can move on to learning more advanced grammer and vocabulary.
IS IT THE BEST WAY TO GO FOR EVERY STUDENT?
Some people find it hard to focus unless there is some outside pressure such as an upcoming "exam" or an instructor checking their "homework".
Rocket Japanese is a learn at home program. It is powerful but you must provide the follow-through yourself
If you think you might need the pressure of a class situation in order to take action, look into classes at a local college. Remember, however, that classroom instruction will cost much more and will take longer.
