Compressed high production fluorescent lights like the T5 grow lights, are cooler than the hot and energy eating HPS grow lights. Placed at graduating heights and numbers to help the gradual development of the plants, these lights attempt to mimic natural sunlight in so far as the two spectrums of red and yellow are concerned. These are not to be confused with the T8s and the T12s which have lower outputs and are mostly used for greening and foliage rather than blooming and fruiting.

Depending on the growth of the plant and how you want it to grow, the T5 grow lights are adjusted in wattage to stimulate budding, flowering or fruiting. The combination of low wattage and high wattage will be a general growth stimulant. T5s is different from other T lamps with differentiating numbers of 8 or 12. These are for starter growth and low lighting. The higher the number, the less number of kilowatts is expended.

Firs invented for aquarium lights to provide light without too much heat which can kill the fish, the gardeners found that the T5 lights also stimulated plants' growth successfully, just as the hotter HPS lights did. This realization was first put into practice years ahead in Europe. It is only now that the reality has reached the American gardeners who are getting more conscious of energy conservation, a practice that European have been at for more than twenty years.

Hydroponics and grow lights has seen an increasing popularity in recent years mostly because of the awareness of pollution present in most soils. The ability to grow plants in just solutions of nutrients without any terra involved makes people think of clean food. Also, the help of the grow lights is they HPS or Ts have opened the possibility of producing healthy vegetables in the dark winter months.

With the current use of LED lights, the T5 grow lights and the HPS grow lights are making more things possible in gardening. Now, more and more people demand the cleaner method of vegetable production, and even if it is sometime wracked with bacterial problems, these are easily handled and solved.
