subject: Samsung Rogue review by an experience owner of this feature phone [print this page] When I first got this phone I loved itWhen I first got this phone I loved it. It's a beautiful screen and very user-friendly. It wasn't hard to figure anything out and it took me through an easy set-up wizard. First impression, it was great.
Widget Bar - the widget bar is a really nice tool to have, however, the widgets are let-downs. I know there isn't a samsung widget store or anything, so I can't complain about the ones there are, but however the ones there are are disappointing. When I clicked the facebook widget I figured there would be an integrated facebook application in the phone, however it linked me to the facebook mobile site. That isn't a big deal, however, the facebook mobile site doesn't seem to agree with my phone and everything is distorted. I can't speak for everyone saying that, it might just be that my device is messed up. The myspace, youtube, and twitter widgets do the same, however i cant tell you if there's more because i cant check because the phone is frozen, but ill get to that issue later.
Messaging - i love texting on this phone because the inbox shows it in conversations (however you can switch it to normal in message settings). the hardware keyboard is awesome, i love the feel of the keys, but the on-screen keyboard could use work if you're planning on typing fast on it because it doesnt pick up everything i press. however, even with full service, it says network not responding and it doesnt send the message, which is SO ANNOYING.
Tools - the tools are basic, however i do like the calculator. it has a lot of functions (i can't exactly name them all because again, the phone is frozen). the calender is basic, along with the alarm clock, world clock, etc.
Email - the email clients are just like the ones on any other verizon phone, so i cant blame them for being bad or anything because they're the same on all feature phone devices that i know of.
Internet browsing - i was excited when i got this phone because i had been begging my dad for internet on my phone, and i finally had it. however, the browser ALWAYS freezes the phone, sends me to error pages, etc. however when it does work, it displays pages pretty nicely, but it's pretty rare for it to work.
battery life - AWFUL. if you're planning on getting this phone and you're like me and youre texting your friends all the time, dont get it. even the standby time isnt great. once the phone gets down to two bars i pray that it will last 50% of the time, because that's what 2/4 bars means, but it dies about 2 minutes later. yesterday i started out with full battery and at around 2pm the phone was dead. it's just awful.
navigating - navigating the phone is easy, but it's a hassle. theres not a full control pad on the sliding keyboard so its pretty hard to use the touch screen to navigate everything.
touch screen - i havent really had any problems when i use the touch screen, but it's not great.
hardware - the touch screen is resistive, so it's made of plastic, not glass. it's basically a cheap alternative to a really nice touch screen. for example, the iphone has a capacitive touch screen so it's nice material, etc.
i really just think this phone was made cheaply material-wise. the back is plastic, the touch screen is plastic, etc. the only nice hardware thing on it is the keys on the keyboard. when the phone is slid closed its still wobbly, etc. if you are expecting it to last 2 years from your contract, good luck.
customization - the only thing you can really customize on this phone is the home screen. the themes don't change, only the font, and it's just not the phone for you if you're obsessed with having more than one theme like some people are. luckily, the theme isn't awful looking so it doesnt bother me that much.
experience - basically, i hate this phone with a flaming passion. i can't speak for everyone, but with this it's just been problem after problem after problem. about half an hour ago i wanted to access the email thing, and i click through the menus, and once it gets the the email menu, it froze. 30 minutes later, still frozen. i'm not gonna take the battery out though cause i want to show my dad that its a piece of crap phone. i had upgraded to this from the env2, and the env2 was just disgusting, and this is proving to be the same thing. i guess that next time i will actually go for a more expensive phone, since the expensive ones tend to be better.
i can't speak for everyone with my experience with this phone, but if they are all like that, i think i should at least give the downs about having this phone. reviews dont always have to be good, right? ALSO, it might just be my device that has all these problems (god i have the worst luck with phones), so don't assume everything is gonna happen to yours.
