subject: Government Supports Insulation [print this page] Energy crisis is becoming one of the major concerns and most talked about issues of recent times. People are looking for different options to conserve energy wherever possible. Insulating the buildings is one of the major steps that have been widely undertaken to save energy spent on cooling and heating. Home insulation is one such home improvement practice that is gaining popularity among s large number of people. Ideally insulation should be incorporated at the time of construction of the place. However, with the help of retrofit insulation, the insulation can also be provided to the existing structures. Among the different insulation materials available, spray foam insulation is regarded as one of the best and widely accepted forms of insulation for residential and commercial purposes. Two common types of spray foam are open cell spray foam or 1/2 lb foam and closed cell spray foam or 2lb foam. Both these help in saving energy, but the latter is more efficient. Closed cell spray foam or 2lb foam is most widely used type of spray foam available in the market. It comes in different varieties which are used for several applications. Closed cell or 2lb foam creates an effective moisture-tight and an airtight barrier around the place, thus providing insulation. With the use of close cell spray foam or 2lb foam, now floor insulation, roof repairs and insulation of various other sections can be easily done. The 2lb foam has fewer pores and therefore is more compact as compared to the 1/2 lb foam. In addition, it also has a higher R-value which implies that it insulates the place more efficiently. Moreover, the closed cell has higher density and thus provides greater capacity of expansion. Seeing the benefits that one can attain by installing insulation, government is also promoting insulation. Government is providing support in terms of financial help through the PSE rebate. Under the PSE rebate, government will cover some part of the expenses incurred in the installation of insulation. Initiatives taken by government and the willingness of people to save energy will not only help in cutting down the electricity bills, but will also help in conservation of energy.
