subject: Effective Relationship Advice For A Thriving Partnership [print this page]

Most people dream of a happily-ever-after fairy tale life once the wedding reception is over. However, a lot of the time most people focus so much on wedding preparations they forget to figure out how these two lives will actually merge once the wedding is over. So, how do you really live a happy life with your spouse after the wedding? Read on to find relationship advice to make your marriage last successfully.

Even if you have been in a relationship for a long time, you may actually be making a newly wed mistake. Are you always anticipating what you will receive without giving enough of it yourself? When you are loving, supportive and comforting to your partner, you will find that you will receive all of these things in return as well. Stop waiting around for it, give some love away and see how you will start receiving it.

Are you always trying to "win" an argument? The first lesson in this type of situation is that there is no winner when you are arguing. If you are stuck on winning, you may very well lose your marriage. Look for solutions for the problem at hand, as opposed to trying to win the argument.

Getting over the need to be right can help you solve your issues quicker. Taking the attention off of who is to blame and focusing on how to solve the problem will help you get over your problem. Working toward a solution is more productive than yelling at each other over who is to blame.

In fact, no one can really tell you exactly what to do to fix your relationship. This is because your marriage is a very intimate bond, no one can really understand what has happened between the two of you. No one can really understand the hurt either side has caused the other except for the two people involved. You can, however, find your own way to repairing any damage caused. When something isn't working, try a different solution. Keep working at it until you have conquered your problem.

Falling in love is much different than being in love. Being in love through a marriage can ultimately be more fulfilling that the initial rush of falling in love. When your relationship matures, the feeling of love and mutual respect is bound to grow.

Do not try and fix your partner. "Fixing", or trying to fix your partner does not work. Fix the problem at hand and not what you wish you can fix with your spouse.

A successful marriage typically has open lines of communication. This means your verbal language is direct, and your non-verbal communication is clear as well. Remember, you actions may very well speak much louder than your words! Find out what works in your own relationship. Keep the positive and sift out the negative. No relationship advice can help you as much as you can help yourself.
