You want to make them realize that they are in desperate need of such an intervention.

But before planning such an intervention, consult first a license professional- one who is a trained counselor with specialization in drug and alcohol interventions. But be ready with the confrontation with the addict since there will be resistance at first because he or she feels is that there is an attacked and he or she should get defense. This is the most difficult part motivating someone to make significant changes in his or her life.

Drug or alcohol intervention is a method to help persons addicted to drugs and alcohol overcomes their addiction through a series of interventions. This is the common method used when a person is already out of control because the addicted person no longer knows the extent of his or her addiction. The reason for this is because the drug or alcohol addict normally hangs up with substance users as well. These are the individuals whose sense of right or wrong are patterned from those around them. These are mostly teenagers because they are the persons who can easily give in to friends' pressures. Or it might be out of curiosity that they that they come across drugs or alcohol which are dangerously addictive.

Drug or alcohol intervention should be done in a kind of environment where the addict feels secure and safe. On the other hand, the person making such an intervention must be non-judgmental, neutral and non- critical. The interveners should see to it that the drug or alcohol intervention processes must be systematic. They should make the addicts realize the extent of addiction to the effect that the addict will accept his life and the people around him or her. The person might accept or consider getting help from a professional when this realization is fulfilled. Remember that the goal of drug or alcohol intervention is to make addict realize that drug and alcohol addiction is bad.
