subject: What Is The Green Apple Project? [print this page]

"The Green Apple Project" will address several key issues that currently face our Schools and the future of our children.

The first issue being the lack of funding and the constant need to help the schools financially throughout the year.

The second issue being the lack or reduction of the "arts and real-life business" classes available for our students today.

The project would like to offer recycled paper making as part of or in cooperation with the schools curriculum. This class would incorporate three different models of learning. Teaching hands-on how to recycle paper waste into useful products. Exploring paper arts mastery. And by using recycled paper making as a small business model,to encourage small business ownership and responsibilities.

By taking a problem like garbage and global warming as an example. And showing how it can be turned around into useful things. As well as utilized to provide financial, educational and artistic benefits to the students and their schools. We hope to fulfill our mission statement.

"The Green Apple Project" mission statement is: "To encourage the pathways of creative problem solving with positive solutions for this generation and the next."

Unlike other projects, this one is low tech, low cost, self guided and perpetuated. The benefits of using the schools paper waste is a plus financially and environmentally.

The project would also help to reduce the Carbon Foot Print of the schools.

This aspect alone is worth documenting. And would be an included subject in course material, studies and student discussion groups. Just How much paper waste does the school have each week? How much does it cost to have the garbage man pick it up? How much money can the school save by reducing the paper waste? What can we make with the paper waste? How do we sell it? How will we use the profit we earn? These questions and many more will be part of what inspires and intrigues your students to a better quality of life.

"The Green Apple Project" would also be instrumental in getting the "Paper Arts" back into the schools.

Journal making and keeping, calligraphy, printmaking, drawing, collage work, origami, Mask Making, paper jewelry making, marbleizing, tie-dye paper, wax resist, bookbinding, etc. All of these, almost lost disciplines will be included in the course material.

It is vitally important that we not lose the ability as a people, to create and appreciate a good piece of art.

"For a nation to be great, it's people must have the freedom to be creative in their problem solving."

With the reduction or removal of the arts in our schools, our ability as adults to solve our worlds problems have become rigid and uncompassionate.

It would like to be a part of you and your children's life by enriching, challenging, encouraging and opening the endless possibilities of a healthy and balanced life.
