Moscow has a dark history of wars and massacres and this history can be explored through the museums and galleries throughout the city. With a rich culture that is often overlooked you can see artefacts from World War 2, wars with the French and the Polish and the fall of the Tsar's.

Moscow is known for being a cold city but in reality although it has long cold winters, the weather in the summer can get quite hot and humid so depending on what time of year you visit you may be packing shorts and T shirts instead of winter warmers.

From most five star hotels Moscow's architecture can be seen, Moscow's buildings are renowned worldwide with the onion domes of Saint Basil's Cathedral, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and the Seven Sisters. Moscow was once heavily influenced by the Orthodox religion but Stalin took it upon himself in Soviet times to modernise the city. Stalin had a big influence in Moscow, both good and bad in some people's opinion but Joseph Stalin introduced roads and avenues but unfortunately many amazing buildings suffered in this work. However in the 1990's many of the victims of Stalin's modernisation were re built again to a lot of controversy.

If you are a fan of the arts and culture then you should visit the Tretyakov Gallery which is split into the Old Tretyakov gallery, and the New Tretyakov gallery between these two buildings you can see classic Russian pieces and the work of pre-Revolutionary painters, like Ilya Repin, and other early Russian iconic painters. In the Old Tretyakov gallery you can see rare originals by the early-fifteenth century iconographer Andrei Rublev. If you visit the New Tretyakov gallery, which was built in Soviet times, you can see a few contemporary works and the pieces of Soviet art.

Other popular art museums that are just a short walk away from your five star Moscow hotel is the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, and has a great section of work from around the world, plaster casts of ancient sculptures and famous paintings from every major Western era of art; including Claude Monet, Paul Czanne, and Pablo Picasso.
