subject: What Are Porcelain Veneers & Should You Get Them? [print this page]

There has been a tremendous increase in the popularity of cosmetic dentistry, especially the one which involves porcelain veneers. This is a very well known method in cosmetic dentistry which is used for masking any discoloration or gaps in the teeth.

Porcelain veneers which look like thin wafers are adhered to the teeth. These veneers are generally frail and hence when adhered to the hard teeth they become highly durable.

Any type of discoloration or crack in the teeth can be covered with these veneers. After using these you would realize an instant change in your teeth as they would look straight and bright.

Once you dentist recommends these for covering the imperfections in your teeth, then they would immediately look for the one which would best suit your facial contours. Generally they opt for that which would resemble your existing cavity or when overhauling they would take the size of your mouth and face into account.

For constructing the porcelain veneers, the enamel from your existing teeth will be used. While your enamel is removed, your teeth would be adhered to a temporary structure in veneer.

The temporary veneer will be replaced by the permanent ones, in one visit to the dentistry, you can have it done. Once done, you would have the white, bright and straight teeth and a new appearance to your face.

The expense could be anywhere between $700 and $2000 for a tooth depending on the center. These are highly durable but they are expensive. This is the reason behind the fame of porcelain veneers.

Fixing up an appointment with a dentist is the first step you should take. You can then discuss the other aspects like cost, schedule and type of treatment with your dentist who would let you know the best one.
