These towers are topped by dramatic spires that give Prague its famous magical skyline and at the same time offer a space above the crowds for a bird's eye view of Prague.
Many visitors aren't even aware that the towers are open to the public. After all, it's difficult to break the stream of flow as one visits the historical center. But, if one takes a moment to peer inside and get to the top of just one tower, a visitor's entire perspective will be forever changed. From atop a tower, Prague's tight historical center becomes a captivating mix of spires, rooftops and little streets.
The towers are perfect for families looking to show children a different perspective of Prague or for anyone with a camera. Photos from Prague's towers are more like the postcards you can buy in the streets below. Bear in mind though, many towers don't have elevators so the stairs can be difficult for some visitors. A few have elevators and some have exhibitions halfway up which make visiting still worth the admission price.
Our favorite tower is probably the most crowded with fellow tourists, but it has one of the best vantage points in Prague and it has the extra value of having an elevator. This tower is the majestic Old Town Hall that's located right on the corner of Old Town Square. It's the same tower that has Prague's famous astronomical clock on its side. But the clock is down below and the 360 degree view is at the top above all the tourists where the views are spectacular.
The stunning towers on either side of Charles Bridge are easy to enjoy as well. They aren't as tall as some other towers and they both have rather interesting exhibitions inside. The bridge tower on the Old Town side of the river includes a very interesting exhibition and video about the history of the bridge and its founder, Charles IV. Headsets with various translations of the video are also provided so most everyone can enjoy the video. At the top of the spiral stone staircase above the exhibition is the viewing deck that wraps around the tower's roof. The views are stupendous and your camera will thank you.
The fascinating Baroque St. Nicholas Church houses another worthwhile tower to consider. This one, near Charles Bridge in Lesser Town, also includes an exhibition that recreates a piece of communist history inside with a spy's hideout near the top of the tower. The small room here was once used by the secret police to spy on residents far below. The police certainly must have enjoyed the splendid view from here like most visitors can today. One can see much of Prague's Mala Strana, or Lesser Town from here and other attractions worth noting from the walkway at the top.
Other towers worth considering include Rozhledna Tower, Prague's miniature Eiffel Tower, the Powder Tower in Old Town and the New Town Hall tower near Wenceslas Square. Any of these are a perfect addition to standard sightseeing and will give you a different perspective of Prague.
