Feel as good as you look!
Feel as good as you look!

For us gals, dressing is almost always a compromise between looking great, and feeling fab. You only have to think about the difference between sneakers and Louboutins, microskirts and tracksuit pants, skinny jeans and relaxed fit jeans to realise the truth of this! However, one area where you don't have to compromise is your lingerie. Today we explore 5 fabrics for lingerie, and 5 shapes/designs for lingerie that both feel great, and look awesome!

Fantastic fabrics for lingerie

Microfibre: Microfiber lingerie feels barely there on the skin, and is light and breathable. This lingerie fabric hugs your curves and moulds to the shape of your body without 'putting you under any pressure'!

Elastane: Elastane again helps your lingerie hug curves rather than falling over them. When it is twisted and roped into 'elastic', it enables silk and other non-stretchy fabrics to be used for lingerie items like knickers.

Lycra: A second cousin to spandex, Lycra is far less cheesy and much more breathable! Lycra lingerie helps you feel supported and contained, while still providing plenty of flexibility.

Silk: There's nothing that compares to the feeling of pure silk on skin ... it's divine! Silk lingerie is best when it is combined with elastane straps or reinforcement - otherwise there is little you can do with it other than drape it over your top half. This makes pure silk lingerie lovely for special occasions ... but not as useful for everyday wear.

Polyamide: Also known as nylon, polyamide is a hard-wearing, beautifully smooth and very flexible material for lingerie. It is almost always used in conjunction with other materials in a blend - usually with polyester - and can also be part of microfiber lingerie pieces.

Snug shapes for lingerie

Soft-cup bras: Soft cup bras don't provide a whole heap of support, but they are certainly one of the most comfortable lingerie types. If you hate the feeling of restriction that underwire bras can create, go for a soft cup and you can look great without compromising your comfort level.

Half-cup bras: If you aren't ready for the swinging, swaying freedom of soft-cup bras (or if your figure just isn't cut out for them!), try a half-cup bra instead. They're ultra-sexy lingerie, creating a deep and soft cleavage, yet just as comfy as full-cup bras.

Hold-up stockings: Suspender belts tend to cut in around the waist a little ... grab a pair of hold up stockings and discover just how sexy you can feel without feeling like you're trussed up like a latex turkey!

Babydolls: Okay, these aren't really for work wear ... but they certainly are comfortable enough to sleep in! Every woman should have a babydoll nightie in her lingerie collection - they make any body look divine.

G-strings: They may not be comfortable the first few times - but once you get used to the feeling of freedom and fresh air on your skin, g-strings will come to dominate your lingerie collection. The ultimate in sexy lingerie, g-strings get comfier with every wear. Just make sure you pick a pair that is sized to suit you - some girls prefer straps thinner or thicker than others.
