subject: What Hair And Hair Products Can And Can't Do - Part 1 [print this page] Hair is dead! The only products that are able to bond semi-permanently to hair are chemicals such as color, bleach, perms or relaxers.
Over The Counter (OTC) and "Organic" or "natural" hair products only lie on your hair for 2 to 3 hours until climate changes challenge all hair types but mostly frizzy or curly hair. ALL hair products are water soluble including those with "organic" ingredients except for one waterproof product, which is shampoo soluble.
Why do we spend so much money on costly "organic" or "natural" products when they add little value to the hair? All water soluble hair products dissipate in hot, cold windy and dry climates or dilute in rainy, misty humid climates.
There is nothing wrong with using expensive "organic" or "natural" hair products. I do, however, take issue with claims made by manufactures of these products and their boasting about how they repair damaged hair, split ends or substantially change hair texture for any period of time. I also have an issue with product manufactures that make claims of "certified organic" ingredients. If there are any federal regulations in regards to the authenticity of these ingredients there is no way to prove that they are truly "organic".
If hair products are truly "organic" they would have a short shelf life and need to be refrigerated against bacterial growth. Homemade concoctions for frizzy or curly hair are a waste of great food especially expensive "organic" foods or ingredients. Those who chose to spend a lot of money on these products or ingredients for their hair do not have the real information, hence this article. Knowing the truth about these over marketed products would save many people a lot of time and money. Your hair doesn't care whether products are "organic" or not. Your hair is a dead fiber that can not be repaired or revived. It can be made to look better until the damaged hair has finally been cut off to make room for newer, healthier growth. A simple test is to shampoo your hair without adding anything else to your hair and allow it to dry naturally. That shows you the true health of your hair, raw and real.
Hair conditioners are fillers for the holes in the hair shaft, which are caused from everyday wear and tear. exposure to everyday living and climate changes such as, sleeping, wind, sun, heat and more. Over time the hair shaft becomes worn down. The longer the hair has been on your head the thinner the cuticle layer becomes and the more vulnerable it is for damage. To maintain any kind of conditioning effectiveness, conditioners have to be locked into the hair shaft longer so climate changes have a slower damaging affect on the hair shaft. The only way to accomplish this is with a non-water soluble silicone product that creates a transparent barrier that blocks out excess moisture while locking in the essential moisture content.
Moisture is essential to the strength of the hair shaft because it sustains elasticity in the hair. Water soluble "anti-frizz products" claim to stay on the surface of the hair shaft but all fall short of accomplishing that end. Nano technology has proven that none of them accomplish what the manufacture claims unless the product is waterproof and shampoo soluble.
Think of your hair as a sponge. Hair can either dry out and become brittle or over saturated with water expanding the cuticle, both cause a frizzy look. In humid, rainy, misty or foggy climates, naturally frizzy or curly hair, like a sponge, becomes over saturated exploding the hair shaft. These types of climates dilute ALL conditioners and other water soluble products, even "organic", rendering them useless. It"s like flushing money down a toilet. Water can not control water. Moisture also dilutes water soluble anti-frizz products, yielding them ineffective as well. Dry, hot or cold climates zap the moisture from your hair as it would a sponge. Hair becomes brittle and hair color can fade faster. Hair loses its swing and movement and can look like cardboard.
If you apply a waterproofing to a sponge, like your hair, it creates a light weight protective barrier. Moisture or conditioners can not dilute nor dissipate from your hair. A waterproof product locks in the essential moisture content along with your conditioner while blocking out excess moisture that dilute water soluble products.
