subject: Stay In A Lake District Hotel Among The Stunning Scenery Of The Lake District [print this page]

The Lake District is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful places in the world. So why not book a holiday in a Lake District Hotel for a relaxing time to enjoy this marvellous place at your leisure?

Imagine waking up in the morning in your Lake District hotels to stunning views over the atmospheric hills and lakes of the Lake District. Then enjoy a leisurely breakfast before going out to see what the Lake District has to offer.

The Lake District has the highest mountains in England, so why not go and take a look at Scafell Pike? It also has the longest and deepest lakes, all of which are very near your Lake District hotel. Walking is very popular in the Lake District, and there are numerous bridle paths and walkways, as well as the more challenging mountain walks. You can also climb these mountains if you want a Lake District holiday with more thrills.

For a more leisurely holiday, you can see the sights from your car. Lake District hotels have excellent parking facilities, and you can potter round the roads or even drive over some of the hilly passes such as Hard Knott, for an electrifying experience - but remember to give way to sheep. Keep your eyes open for the local wildlife as well. There are the rare and endangered red squirrels in the Lake District, as well as three types of deer and foxes. The famous John Peel came from the Lake District, and hunted on foot. Nowadays the hounds are used for racing and you can sometimes see the local farmers walking with a couple of hounds on a lead, training them for the traditional fell racing season. Also not to be missed are the famous Bassenthwaite Ospreys, the first ospreys to breed in England for many years. They have raised many a brood of chicks and can be seen through telescopes set up at the osprey viewing site on the far side of Bassenthwaite Lake, which incidentally is the only body of water called a lake in the Lake District!

After your day in the Lake District you can relax in your Lake District Hotel with a pint of the local brew, such as Jennings's Sneck Lifter. There are also some excellent places to eat, with gourmet food, such as the famous Sharrow Bay, which has been a Michelin starred hotel for fourteen years.
