subject: Control Panic Attacks To Live A Fuller Life [print this page]

If you are plagued by a panic attack then your aim is to minimize your panic attacks. That should be your goal only for now as your long-term goal is to stop the disorder from ever occurring again. Indeed, information on controlling panic attacks are available everywhere. So instead of being repetitive, I would much rather provide you what I think are the best three means to control panic attacks.

If somebody tells you how to control panic attacks, your initial reaction would be to shun away from him because he would only seem like a person who knows a lot of things but does not really know what you are going through. I know that I can be considered as one of those people but I really want you to take a little time and be the judge if these three ways cannot help you.

The first thing I want to happen is for you to end your self-pity and begin working towards recovery. I know it is always painful to admit that you have a disorder but that is the best way for you to become motivated to make your treatment regimen work. If you will continue to live in denial of the disorder then you will not have the drive to work on stopping it.

The next thing you need to work on is being a keen observer; a keen observer of the changes and occurrences in your body during a panic attack. Just think about it, if you already know what will happen whenever you have an attack, you will never be caught off guard again and you will be more composed. Now, now there is no need to become paranoid so don't think that I want you to become one.

After you took notice of your body, take notice of your environment. Then again, there is really no need for paranoia so doesn't start locking yourself inside your house just to avoid tension; just be more careful than you usually are. Always scan places that are new to you and if you sense something that could possibly ignite a panic attack; I believe it is time to turn your back to the place.

I know you must be thinking that the third step seems to be asking for you to avoid a lot of things, and that is exactly the message I want to convey to control panic attacks. No, I do not want you to avoid these things forever because you need to confront them in one way or another to be completely healed from this disorder. It is just a temporary remedy while you are not yet strong enough to handle a confrontation.
