La Manzanilla, Mexico, the picturesque fishing village on the pacific coast is the perfect destination for a relaxing vacation. Here is a top 5 list to help you make the most of your time here.

Top five "must do's" while on vacation in La Manzanilla, in no particular order.

1. Take a boat tour of the mangrove. Tours depart in the evening and last around an hour and half. You will be treated to an up close view of the many bird species that call the mangrove home; Boat-billed Heron, Red-billed Pigeon, Orange-fronted Parakeet, American Stork, and Roseate Spoonbill, the mangrove hosts the second largest population of the American crocodile along the coast of Jalisco.

2. Take a Spanish class. The Catalina Natural Language School offers weekly small group classes starting on Mondays. Classes are from 4-7 pm. They can also arrange home stays with local Mexican families where you can practice your newly honed language skills. There are also several instructors offering private lessons if you prefer more flexibility.

3. Catch one of the many art openings. If you are here any time between December-March you'll find many opportunities to attend art openings and meet the artists. La Manzanilla also hosts an annual artwalk/open studio where you will have the chance to visit artists in there homes and studios and purchase original works directly from them.

4. Dine out! Culinary choices abound, whether its oysters on the beach, a taco from one of the many sidewalk restaurants or a goat cheese and sundried tomato encrusted beef filet from Caf de Flores you'll have plenty to choose from.

5. Hit the beach. La Manzanilla beach is a lovely crescent shaped bay of honey colored sand. Gentle waves lap the beach, there is no under tow and it's perfect for swimming. Plop down at one the many seaside restaurants, order a drink and soak up some sun.
