subject: A kitchen renovation can revitalise a home [print this page]

New figures from Sigma3 suggest that home renovators are more likely to spend time improving their kitchens than their dining rooms.

The survey conducted by the company questioned 2,500 British homeowners and found that nearly half prefer to spend more time in the kitchen than the dining room, with 50 per cent of 25 to 34 year olds choosing to entertain there.

Marketing manager at the kitchen company Bethan Barnfield believes that the results show "how pivotal kitchens are becoming to many elements of our everyday lives" and that the dining room has "lost its appeal".

These statistics may indicate that more focus is to be placed on kitchens by self-builders in the near future and may lead to a decrease in dining rooms being included in house designs at all.

Mary Johnson, writer for RemodelingMySpace, says that kitchen refurbishing is one of the most popular home improvement projects and advises thorough planning and designing to get the most out of the room.
