subject: Secure Your Home With These Tips! [print this page]

Securing your home should be done both externally and internally. There are measures one should take to prevent your home from being invaded by unwanted guests as well as secure for members of your family from having any accidents. After all, this is your place to unwind, to have private moments, and the place where you raise your kids. Here are some helpful tips that may be of use to you:

- Invest in Security equipment. Your home should be protected by a home security system that is turned on when you are away. With a keypad alarm setting system, the police will be quickly alerted if some would be burglars and thieves enter your home. For these criminals, the element of time is always against them and they have to make a quick getaway if they do decide to rob a place. A security system does not give them the luxury of time and is an impediment for their success. Other things you should also invest are deadbolt locks and pigeon eye viewers in the front door. This is for you to see and select those people you want to enter your home.

- Make your home rodent proof. This is the intruders we all hate. Do not make your house an example of a place full of mice infestation. Mice infestation is dirty and deadly. House mice are carriers of diseases which can also prove to be fatal. The ingestion of their droppings can be poisonous and deadly. Sanitize your home by keeping it clean, especially the kitchen area. Place mice repellents in areas where mice are most likely to venture. This could mean a storage room or the kitchen cupboards. Another thing you can also do is to line your cabinets, cupboards and store room with eucalyptus leaves. Mice hate the smell of eucalyptus. Segregate garbage and double bag it so that they are not easily torn and broken. A wet garbage bin is a paradise for mice and they will be attracted to it.

- Make your home child safe. Cover any open electrical outlets. Place non slip mats or rubber tiles in kitchens and bathrooms. Place cloth to cover corners. Fix any electrical wires and keep kitchen utensils away from the reaches of children. We cannot help it that children are curious but by making it difficult for them to get things, we can most probably prevent any home accidents.
