You have spent your entire life listening to people tell you that you need to wash your face. For most of us, face washing is much more of a chore than anything else and it is not usually something we want to make time for. Even after going through puberty and fighting daily breakouts and acne, washing your face probably feels like a chore--especially right before bedtime. Here's the truth: to keep bacteria and other things from clogging your pores, you need to keep your face clean. Are you prepared to be the only adult you know who still fights acne every day? Here is what you need to do to keep your pores free and clear.

Make sure your hair stays away from your face.

Hair follicles produce oil, which gets transferred to your hair and then your face if your hair is allowed to hang in your face. If you have long hair that spends most of the day hanging in your face, the oil is easily transferred from follicle to pore which is how pimples are made. Sure having long hair is fun, but if you want to fight against acne, keep it off of your face. This is easiest when you wear a headband or pull your hair into a ponytail or braid. You'll be glad you did! Maybe you need a dermatologist's advice. There are some adults out there whose acne is so bad they need to seek professional help to get it under control. If nothing in the store is doing the trick, then you might need a qualified professional to help you treat your acne and breakouts. Some people simply need something stronger than an over the counter cleanser and a dermatologist can provide that. Your doctor or dermatologist might figure out that your acne is a medical condition and not simply a case of clogged pores. Did you know that acne can be caused by genetics or other medical conditions? Your doctor will help you figure out how to clear up your skin safely and get it healthy again.

Reduce your stress! Stress is one of the major causes of most adult acne breakouts. Try to stay calm and give yourself space to relax at least once a day. Learning how to stay calm in high stress environments is a good idea. If your regular lifestyle is highly stressed, think about slowing it down a little. Finding time for yourself is imperative for your mental health and it is important for your skin! Believe it or not the basic forms of acne prevention are also the best: cleanse your face regularly and don't pick at anything that pops up. Other breakouts will require you to use something a little bit more powerful than a basic cleanser. No matter how old you might be, there are plenty of options available to help you keep your breakouts from coming back-isn't that great?
