subject: Crate Training A Dog Really Is Very Easy, Once You Know How [print this page]

Before you bring your dog home learn the basics of crate training a dog and really take into consideration using this way of training. The crate or cage as its also known will represent as a little cubby hole in your residence for your canine to go to. most dogs love crates because this gives a dog a safe place to go when they want sometime on their own.

A dog dwelling as expected would look for a place that he would believe to be his home, this would most probably be a warm, dark place where he would establish boundaries. A dog will not mess in his own den and would much rather do his business as far away as achievable except when marking out his territory.

This natural instinct which your dog has means that by using a crate you will benefit from; the crate would be your dogs den, your home will be his territory, which he will unconsciously maintain his surrounding area is where he will mark out his territory when he is out on his walks. Simple right?

Although an instinct, crate training a dog is unpredictable, your dog will either take to it like a duck to water or he will need some time to get used to using it. If done wrong he will resist it and will in no way trust it. And conversely once he has taken to the crate then he will use it all the time.

The first thing you should do when you decide to bring a crate home is to build it and place it while your dog is out on a walk. Permit your dog to see the crate when it has been totally assembled and has been put in its rightful place in your home. Line it with some of his stuff so the crate smells of your dog.

Give him some time alone with the crate and let him explore it.

Don't agonize if your dog doesn't take to the crate instantaneously, crate training a dog can take time and by following this overview you'll be well on your way.
