Most people would agree that dealing with acne is a pain. Most of us find acne embarrassing. Most of us feel like pimples and acne are things we should have grown out of when we left our teenage years. The only real way to keep acne off of your face and out of your pores is to practice a good skin care routine. You might not want to believe this but there are plenty of adults who still have the same acne problems they had as young teenagers. Here is what you can do to keep your pores clean (and keep acne away). Read on to find out how to make your breakouts more manageable!

A good cleanser is key to keeping acne from causing breakouts. Obviously you want to stay away from a product with an oil base but other criteria are important as well when you are choosing your cleanser. You should also look at the salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is often found in cleansers that are harder on the skin and meant for people who suffer from severe acne. It is also used in "regular" cleansers though in lesser amounts that are meant to just be strong enough to kill bacteria and wash out your pores. Salicylic acid should not be used regularly when you get older and your skin has gotten thinner and more sensitive.

Your makeup and other cosmetic items might be oil based. Sometimes even the cleanser you use on your face will have an oily base! The reason you wash your face with cleanser is to get rid of the oil in your pores! While you are shopping be sure to check for oil before you buy any beauty products, cosmetics or cleansers. The easiest way to do this is to choose powder based beauty products instead of those with liquid bases. When you purchase a facial cleanser, choose one that is not lotion-y and is more liquid than solid. Take your time instead of grabbing the first thing you see!

When acne does appear, keep both of your hands off of it! Never squeeze or pick at zits. Leaving your acne alone is always the best idea. You are still allowed to wash your face and treat your breakout with some acne fighters but do not pick at your face or try to pop any of the pimples. Sometimes acne will take a little bit of time to heal. What would your rather have happen? A spotty face for a day or two or a scarred face forever?

You have plenty of options available for cleaning your skin and fighting acne. Some manage to get by with just a quick washing routine a couple of times a day. Other people need a more involved routine There are also people who choose to fight acne with diet and exercise. It might take some time for you to figure out the method that works best for you. The idea behind acne fighting is to try each acne fighting method for a while before moving on.

Nothing will work overnight so give all of your trials at least a week or two to start working before moving on to something new.
